License FAQ

Difference between the add-on license and the digital asset license:

The add-on and its Python source code are licensed under the GNU General Public License, as required for all Blender add-ons.

The digital assets of Human Generator (i.e. textures, thumbnails, and 3D models) can be purchased on BlenderMarket.com and fall under a different license, the Human Generator Digital Asset License:

[1]: This only applies to easily extractable formats. For example, sharing/selling the assets within a closed format like a video game is allowed, but sharing/selling .fbx files of 3D models created with Human Generator is not allowed. [2]: This means all 3D models and/or textures created by using Human Generator. For example the base humans, the clothing, the hairstyles and the corresponding textures. Also when you've manually edited these models or textures.

Frequently asked license questions:

If I use Human Generator as a starting point, can I sell the resulting 3D model to others? (i.e. using online marketplaces, other companies)

It's not allowed to share/sell the 3D models and/or textures of Human Generator to people who don't have a Human Generator license. This is still not allowed when you have customized the models yourself (i.e. changed the textures, added your own clothes). This restriction is for both the personal and commercial license. We understand that this might seem as a strict rule, but it's very hard to draw a clear line between something you created and something that is just reselling the models and textures we made for Human Generator.

If it's absolutely necessary for your business to share the 3D models/textures with freelancers and/or third party companies, please Contact Us.

I am a YouTube/Vimeo video creator. Do I need a commercial license?

We made an exception to our license for YouTube and Vimeo creators, so you don't need a commercial license if the only commercial activity you'll be doing is making public YouTube or Vimeo videos.

Are you using another video platform than those two? This is how to determine if you need a commercial license for that platform:

  • Do people have to pay to see the video? Then you need a commercial license.
  • Are the videos publicly visible? Then you don't need a commercial license.
